Mouse pad trainers cause so much heartache for people on social media especially newbies. I’ve seen newbies be discouraged and leave certain fb pages that are supposed to be there to help people.

I believe advice should be given when asked and done in a kind way as to encourage drivers to improve. Unsolicited advice (e.g. an unsafe practice that could result in an accident) should be give in private; “adjust another woman’s crown without the whole world knowing”.

While reading, I couldn’t help but ponder the impact of temperature on a horse’s demeanor, colloquially referred to as a hot horse It might be interesting to explore how different climates influence the energy levels and behavior of carriage horses. Considering their well-being in varying weather conditions could be a valuable addition to your insightful discussions on equine interactions. Keep up the engaging content!

My guess is it was really for a 14-15hh horse I think and has a little adjustability so trying to make it work for my chunky 13.1HH pony. We ended up shortening the shaft lengthen by 6″ and seems a good balance except for the fact that the width between the shafts is too wide. I am thinking me might be able to bend the bars (Its metal) in to make it narrower but having trouble figuring out if its a good idea or the recommended width.

Any hints would be appreciated. Love your blogs.

Is it better to hitch all things on the near side, then all things on the far side or go back and forth say near side trace, far side trace and holdback nearside holdback, safety check, offside safety check, onto vehicle and go?

He is distracted easily or should I say very aware of his surroundings, but not spooky (if that makes sense?) he’s not bolted nor scooted very far ever, but being taught to stand, gives the pause he needs to refocus. The driving training really reinforced the pretty good stand training he had to Stand like your hooves are growing roots into the ground, standing. It is odd that when he is tied to or facing a trailer, he screws around more than when he is standing open facing down the driveway. It is as if he can see more and stands better. Still we need to work more on standing when I am on the seat.

I have been following your articles for years and have really enjoyed them and gained from your insightful writing.
I am in the market for a new set of pair driving reins. Could you discuss the different styles? Pros, cons etc? I have the more “standard” style now but am considering the ? Achenbach? style, where the rein split is closer to the hand.
Thanks Liisa
